Dev Patel’s Thrilling Directorial Debut Unveils Explosive Trailer and Confirms April Release Date with Universal Pictures”
Oscar-nominated actor Dev Patel is set to make his directorial debut with the adrenaline-pumping revenge saga, “Monkey Man.” Universal Pictures has announced the theatrical release date for April 5, accompanied by a gripping trailer. Jordan Peele produces the film under his Monkeypaw Productions banner.
In the film, Patel takes on the role of Kid, an enigmatic young man surviving in an underground fight club. Night after night, disguised in a gorilla mask, he endures brutal beatings from more popular fighters in exchange for cash, drawing inspiration from the Hindu deity Hanuman.
The storyline unfolds as Kid, fueled by years of suppressed rage, uncovers a way to infiltrate the city’s sinister elite. Driven by childhood trauma, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash a relentless campaign of retribution against those who stripped him of everything.
The trailer teases intense action reminiscent of “John Wick,” featuring Patel’s character embarking on a bloody quest for vengeance. Armed with a ruthless determination, he employs guns, knives, and brute force to carve his path through gunmen. Notably, one scene depicts him ruthlessly stabbing a man through the neck while gripping a knife between his teeth.
Directed by Patel from his original story and screenplay co-written with Paul Angunawela and John Collee, “Monkey Man” was initially slated for Netflix but will now hit theaters through Monkeypaw’s film deal with Universal.
The star-studded cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.
